Dr. Michael Kennedy
This award was established through the generosity of Dr. Michael Kennedy. Dr. Kennedy retired from Georgian in 2019 after many years teaching in social work programs at Georgian, York University and at the University of Toronto. Passionate and committed to social activism and community mobilization, Dr. Kennedy hopes this award will inspire students engage with their community and help it to flourish.
Dr. Michael Kennedy Community Change Agent Award
The award is presented to a full-time second-year student in the Social Service Worker program at Georgian. The recipient will demonstrate academic achievement (GPA of 75% or higher) and a passion for social activism and community involvement. As part of the application, students will describe their community or campus engagement and social advocacy/activism and their commitment to facilitating change and shaping policy for the benefit of marginalized communities (i.e., advocacy in areas which could include, but is not limited to, mental health, mobility, race, ethnicity, gender and sexuality, and economic status). Preference will be given to an applicant who self-identifies as being part of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
