Roxann Whittingham / Black Empowerment Education Fund
This award was established through the generosity of Roxann Whittingham, founder of the Black Education Empowerment Fund (B.E.E.F.) to encourage a higher representation of black students at Georgian College’s Orillia campus.
According to research (Robson et al, 2018), black students face much higher adversity to get post-secondary education; specifically, TDSB published research indicated that 43% of black high school graduates do not even apply to post-secondary institutions, therefore B.E.E.F aims to promote enhanced access to higher education to the black student populace, while stimulating diversity in the college community.
Black Education Empowerment Fund (B.E.E.F.) Scholarship
Presented to a full-time Georgian College student enrolled in any program at Georgian College’s Orillia campus. Recipient must display academic merit (min 70% GPA), and demonstrate financial need. Recipients will self‐identify as a black student.
