Ted Fullerton
Ted Fullerton is a Canadian artist – previously professor and Fine Art Program coordinator at Georgian College from 1978-2013. As an artist he works in painting, drawing, printmaking and sculpture and has achieved awards in all four media. His work is exhibited nationally and internationally and is represented in numerous renowned private and public collections. He was awarded, Excellence in the Arts by the City of Barrie in 2010, the Georgian College Board of Governors Award of Excellence in 2012 and has been a member of the Royal Canadian Academy since 2009. He has also been active as a curator, where he has focused on artist’s work or collections that have caught his interest.
The Fullerton scholarship was set up by Ted and Jane Fullerton and was initiated in 2003. It was a result of my wife Jane asking me what I would like as a gift as I was turning 50 years old – there was a surprise party being planned. I had indicated that I really did not want anything but if friends asked and insisted on “gifting” a donation to a scholarship specifically for Fine Art students at Georgian College is what I would want to see realized. The generosity of our close friends along with Jane and myself facilitated this scholarship, which ended up being more than I had hoped for – to celebrate outstanding accomplishments of emerging artists.
The Ted Fullerton scholarship is intended to financially assist emerging artists who have excelled within their year of studio studies in the Georgian College Fine Art Program. Scholarships are to be awarded within each year of study annually by an outside jury of independent artists and curators invited by the Fine Art Program coordinator during the year-end scholarship exhibition.
Humanity consumes “the world” and it is only through the arts that this experience is “given back”. This allows others as well as the artists to celebrate, consider, and experience “what it means to be alive". It is a cultural testament of the time you live in and one of the most important and lasting contributions that can be made. What is currently so exciting within the visual arts profession and infused within the Georgian Fine Art program is how technology can and does interface with a discipline that celebrates a “hands on” engagement.
This award is presented to a student in the Fine Arts/Fine Arts Advanced program who has demonstrated excellence in studio work.
