Remembrance Scholarship at Georgian College

On January 8, 2020, a Ukrainian airliner crashed near Tehran, Iran. Victims of the crash included 57 Canadians. Among the victims, 34 people were employed at or studying in universities and colleges in Ontario. In remembrance of the victims and to commemorate the talent that has been lost, Ontario has provided select publicly-assisted postsecondary institutions with funding for dedicated scholarships for the 2020-2021 academic year.

The scholarship is open to students who are beyond their first semester in any diploma or degree program at Georgian College who have demonstrated academic achievement (minimum 75% GPA), financial need and exceptional community involvement.

  1. In order to be considered for the Remembrance Scholarship at Georgian College you are required to respond to the two statements below. You must provide a detailed response to each statement (minimum 250 words required for each statement).

  3. NOTICE OF COLLECTION OF PERSONAL INFORMATION

    If you are selected as the recipient of an Ontario Remembrance Scholarship, the Ministry will indirectly collect your personal information from your post-secondary institution pursuant to paragraphs 1 and 4 of s. 15(1) of the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities Act.

    If you are selected as the recipient of an Ontario Remembrance Scholarship, the personal information collected by the Ministry will include information on your program of study and year of study at the post-secondary institution, as well a brief rationale for your selection. The Ministry uses this personal information to administer the Ontario Remembrance Scholarship program, which includes planning or delivering the program, allocating resources, evaluating or monitoring the program, and detecting, monitoring and preventing fraud or any unauthorized receipts of services or benefits related to the program. If you are selected as the recipient of an Ontario Remembrance Scholarship and you have applied for OSAP assistance, the Ministry will also use your personal information for the purposes of administering OSAP.
